Abstract

This article examines the interconnection between the preservation of historical and cultural heritage and the sustainable development of tourism in Uzbekistan through the analysis of historical experience and contemporary scientific and practical approaches. Particular attention is paid to the significance of ancient cities, architectural monuments, archaeological sites, sacred places, traditional crafts, and elements of intangible cultural heritage in enhancing the country's tourism potential. Historical and cultural heritage is considered not only as a means of preserving national identity and historical memory but also as an important resource for economic development, regional employment, international cultural cooperation, and the expansion of tourism service exports. The study focuses on the protection of historical monuments, the improvement of tourism infrastructure, the consideration of local community interests, the preservation of ecological balance, and the application of digital technologies. Furthermore, potential challenges arising from the expansion of tourism, including the physical deterioration of heritage sites, commercialization, transformations in traditional lifestyles, and environmental pressure, are analyzed. Based on the findings, organizational, economic, social, and technological recommendations are proposed to harmonize the preservation of historical and cultural heritage with the long-term development of tourism in Uzbekistan.
