Sport Tourism is an emerging sector of tourism. Uzbekistan has huge potential for sport tourism due to a range of sporting activities available. This includes mountainous regions, lakes, desert areas, historic cities, traditional sports and developing event infrastructure. Sport tourism can encourage tourists to visit more rural areas, increase their length of stay, increase local businesses and improve the destination. This article will look at how sustainable sport tourism can be used to develop tourism in Uzbekistan. A qualitative approach was taken and research was carried out using academic and policy sources. Sport tourism can create new employment opportunities, provide diversity to the tourism sector, make use of natural and cultural resources and combat seasonality. In order to make sport tourism successful in the long term it is important to consider community involvement, sustainability of natural resources, suitable infrastructure, safe environments and working with other sectors.
